Honest comparison

Kata vs Fitbit.

Fitbit became Google Health in May 2026, and the Gemini coach that came with it is the real thing. The question is whose servers your health lives on.

The verdictNow Google Health, with a real Gemini coach. The question is whose servers it runs on.

First, fairly

Fitbit at a glance.

What it is for

Since May 2026 the Google Health app, with a Gemini coach that plans training, reads sleep and heart rate variability, and tracks your cycle.

What it costs

Google Health Premium: 9.99 USD a month or 99 USD a year, included with Google AI Pro or Ultra. The Coach needs a compatible device: Fitbit Air starts at 99 USD with three months of Premium. Some tracking stays free, though the split moved with the rebrand.

Where it is strongest

Adaptive multi week plans that reshape around a bad night, at a price nothing in the category matches.

Who it suits

People already inside Google who want continuous tracking and a fluent coach cheaply.

The difference

What changes with Kata.

No device to buy

Your phone is the sensor you already carry, and Kata reads the WHOOP, Oura or Watch you own.

More of the picture

Food by photo or voice, supplements, lab values, weight, medication and mood in one system.

Your file stays yours

Logs, chats and the coach's memory live on your device, not in a Google account.

Side by side

Row by row.

A grey mark means possible, but not on its own.

Why Kata

Three reasons, not thirty.

One system

Food, training, sleep, supplements, labs and mood in a single place.

It decides

Not a dashboard you read: a coach that says what today should look like.

It stays yours

Your logs, chats, photos and the coach's memory live on your device.

Honestly

When Fitbit is the better choice.

If you already live inside Google and want continuous tracking cheaply, this is a strong package. Ninety nine dollars for a screenless band, a capable Gemini coach for ten a month, free if you already pay for Google AI Pro.

In short

What, how and why.

What
Kata is the same idea as the Google Health Coach, built the other way round.
How
It runs on your phone, reads the wearable you already own, and adds food, labs, supplements and mood.
Why
Whether the coaching is good is settled. Where the record of you lives is not.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Is Fitbit gone?

The hardware is not: trackers and watches are still sold, including the screenless Fitbit Air. The app changed. Since May 2026 it is the Google Health app, and Fitbit Premium is Google Health Premium at 9.99 USD a month or 99 a year.

Google's coach is cheaper. Why choose Kata?

Two reasons, and price is not one. Kata holds more of your health in one place: food by voice, supplements, lab values, medication and mood. And all of it stays on your device, not a cloud account.
