About

Built on a single idea.

Health does not respond to motivation. It responds to repetition. Everything about Kata, from the name to the way it is built, follows from taking that seriously.

The name

Kata. The practiced form.

In Japanese budo, a kata (型) is a form practiced until it stops being effort and starts being you. Nobody masters a kata by being motivated; they master it by showing up and repeating it until the movement carries itself.

That is precisely how health works. The protein at lunch, the water, the lights out by eleven: none of it is hard, all of it is repetitive, and every existing app makes the repetition harder by demanding forms, taps and database searches. Kata is the opposite bet: make the repetition so light you barely notice it, and hold the form for you on the days you waver.

The system holds the form.
You practice it.

The stance

It stays with you.

A coach only works if you can tell it everything, and you only tell it everything when it stays between the two of you. So what you tell Kata stays with you: your chats, your photos and your health story live on your device, not on our servers. We keep only the little it takes to run your account, and nothing in detail. Not a promise we hope to keep: the way it is built. The full picture is in your data.

On your device

Your chats, photos and health story live with you, not on our servers.

Between the two of you

A coach only helps when you can tell it everything, in confidence.

Only what we need

We keep the little it takes to run your account, and nothing in detail.

Built in, not promised

This is the architecture, not a policy we simply hope to honour.

Founder

One place that knows you.

Kata started in Marie Keller’s everyday life. She has cared about her health for years: training, routines, real food, actual cooking. What she never had was one place for it. Every year added another app and another subscription, one for workouts, one for macros, one for sleep, none of them talking to each other. And using them felt like living with amnesia: she never really knew what they collected, where her data lived, or who could see it.

From the first day of ChatGPT she did what felt natural: she talked her days through with it. Training, meals, how she slept, what to cook. She loved it. But it kept forgetting: it mixed her days, blurred topics, confused her with the people she had asked about. A brilliant conversation partner that could not hold on to her story.

So she built the product she wanted: a brain that does only this. One coach, one memory, one place for the whole day. Kata does not claim to be the most science-obsessed tool on earth; it is a real daily companion for humans who want a healthier, easier life, and it gets used every single day. With ease.

“Every morning I just talk to it: over coffee, while cooking, after training. It feels completely natural, and then the AI does something no notebook ever did: it knows me a little better every single day.”

The technology

Engineered like it matters.

The engineering behind Kata is Daniel Weber: 15+ years of building software and digital products across very different worlds, from small early teams to large organizations. He was building conversational software long before assistants were everywhere, and he has shipped products in more fields than fit on one line.

That depth is Kata’s quiet advantage: a coach this personal only works when what carries it is built with care and private by design.
