Honest comparison

Kata vs MyFitnessPal.

MyFitnessPal has the deepest food database in the world. It also asks you to search, tap and confirm several times a day, and puts most shortcuts behind a subscription.

The verdictThe deepest food database there is. And what it costs you, in taps and in francs.

First, fairly

MyFitnessPal at a glance.

What it is for

The best known calorie and macro tracker, built on more than twenty million foods including restaurant dishes.

What it costs

A free, ad supported tier without barcode or AI logging. Premium is commonly around 19.99 USD a month or 79.99 a year and Premium+ around 24.99 a month or 99.99 a year, with several concurrent price points depending on region and cohort.

Where it is strongest

Twenty million entries including restaurant menus: whatever you just ate is probably already in there.

Who it suits

People who eat a lot of packaged and restaurant food, or who already have years of history there.

The difference

What changes with Kata.

Say it, it is logged

A photo or your voice, in every plan. None of it sits behind a higher tier.

Where food tracking stops

Sleep, recovery, weight trend, supplements, labs and mood in the same system.

Your diary stays yours

Logs, chats and photos on your device. No ads, nothing sold, no model training.

Side by side

Row by row.

A grey mark means possible, but not on its own.

Why Kata

Three reasons, not thirty.

One system

Food, training, sleep, supplements, labs and mood in a single place.

It decides

Not a dashboard you read: a coach that says what today should look like.

It stays yours

Your logs, chats, photos and the coach's memory live on your device.

Honestly

When MyFitnessPal is the better choice.

If you eat a lot of packaged and restaurant food and want the best odds that an obscure item is already listed, MyFitnessPal remains the safest bet. Twenty years of entries is a real advantage, and history you already have there counts.

In short

What, how and why.

What
Kata is a coach for the whole of your health, not a bigger food database.
How
You say or photograph the meal, and in one tap it is calories and protein against your target.
Why
People who quit logging quit because of the searching, not because they stopped caring.

One coach. Your whole picture.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Does Kata have a barcode scanner?

No. Kata is built around telling it what you ate, in words or with a photo, rather than scanning and searching. If scanning packaged products is central to how you log, MyFitnessPal Premium does that better today.

Is MyFitnessPal's AI Coach the same idea as Kata?

It is the closest thing in the category, but it is scoped to nutrition, limited to paid tiers in five markets, and works from your food logs alone. Kata's coach also reads training, sleep, recovery, supplements, labs and mood.
