Honest comparison

Kata vs Garmin Connect.

Garmin measures more, for free, than any other consumer platform, and you own the watch outright. Kata is the part that decides what to do about it.

The verdictMore free sports science than anyone. And the conversation it never has with you.

First, fairly

Garmin Connect at a glance.

What it is for

The app behind a very large device family, with the deepest free metric set in the industry, from Body Battery to Race Predictor.

What it costs

Buy the watch and nothing recurs: every metric is free. Garmin Connect+ is optional at 6.99 USD a month or 69.99 USD a year, and nutrition tracking sits behind it. The CIRQA band is 199.99 USD and explicitly needs no subscription.

Where it is strongest

Load, readiness, recovery, endurance and race prediction, tuned over two decades for people who actually race.

Who it suits

Runners, riders, swimmers and climbers who want maps, structured workouts and portable data without a monthly fee.

The difference

What changes with Kata.

You talk, it becomes data

Say what you ate and it becomes calories and protein against a target, in every plan.

Labs and supplements kept

Photograph a blood report and the values stay. A supplement stack with adherence, not a note.

It stays on your phone

Logs, chats and the coach's memory of you live on your device. Export as CSV or PDF.

Side by side

Row by row.

A grey mark means possible, but not on its own.

Why Kata

Three reasons, not thirty.

One system

Food, training, sleep, supplements, labs and mood in a single place.

It decides

Not a dashboard you read: a coach that says what today should look like.

It stays yours

Your logs, chats, photos and the coach's memory live on your device.

Honestly

When Garmin Connect is the better choice.

If you run, ride, swim or climb seriously, Garmin is the better platform and it is not close. Maps, structured workouts, load management and race prediction are excellent, the export is the most portable there is, and nothing costs monthly.

In short

What, how and why.

What
Kata is the coach around your Garmin data, not a second watch.
How
It reads activity, sleep and weight from Apple Health or Health Connect, then runs food, labs, supplements and mood.
Why
Training Readiness 38 is a number. What it means for dinner and for tonight is a decision.

One coach. Your whole picture.

Free during the launch phase, every function included. Set up in one conversation, in your own words.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Can Kata read my Garmin data?

Yes, through Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, where Garmin Connect writes activity, sleep and weight. Anything you log by hand takes priority over a synced value, so your corrections stand.

Does Garmin track food?

Yes, since January 2026, but only with a Garmin Connect+ subscription: a food database, barcode scanning and camera recognition. In Kata food logging is in every plan and works by talking rather than searching.
